In my embarrassingly vast experience trawling the internet and as a result of my own passion for the genre, I have discovered many indie music blogs. Some combine mp3s, music news and gig and album reviews for your edification. Many appear to be concerned with nothing but drawing parallels between every imaginable topic or life event and Bright Eyes lyrics. I will be doing my best not to fall into the latter category, but probably won't quite fit into the former. Rather, this blog will attempt to evaluate and illuminate the indie music subculture through discussion, review and first-hand accounts. Notoriously difficult to define, the concept of 'indie' has become increasingly nebulous in recent years. It has certainly evolved from its origins of opposition to the mainstream, which has come to be viewed as both beneficial and problematic. Certain stereotypes have become associated with indie music and the decline of the 'authentic' indie genre is frequently referenced. It is my intention to examine the indie subculture itself, including its practices and attitudes, as well as the impact of its continuing transformation upon insiders and outsiders alike.
